Raúl Jiménez Fires Mexico to First-Ever Nations League Title

Raúl Jiménez delivered a match-winning performance, scoring twice as Mexico edged past Panama 2-1 to claim their first-ever CONCACAF Nations League title on Sunday.

The Fulham striker opened the scoring in the 8th minute before Adalberto Carrasquilla equalized for Panama just before halftime. However, in stoppage time, Jiménez kept his cool from the penalty spot after a handball by José Córdoba, sealing Mexico’s historic victory.

Jiménez Makes History

Jiménez’s two goals not only secured the trophy but also elevated him to the third-highest scorer in Mexico’s history, surpassing Cuauhtémoc Blanco with 39 international goals.

The 33-year-old forward was the top scorer in the tournament’s final stage, netting four goals in two matches, surpassing Christian Pulisic’s three-goal tally.

“Mission accomplished! We played the way we needed to after they tied the game. This is just the beginning—I still have a lot to give to the national team,” Jiménez said after the match.

Mexico’s Road to 2026

With 17 official titles, including 12 Gold Cups, one Confederations Cup, and now their first Nations League, Mexico is setting its sights on a strong showing at the 2026 World Cup, where they will be one of the host nations.

El Tri will face Switzerland and Turkey in June as part of their preparations for the 2025 Gold Cup.
