Dutch football icon Robin van Persie has been appointed as the new manager of Feyenoord, leaving his position at Heerenveen with immediate effect.
The 41-year-old, who had a legendary playing career with Arsenal and Manchester United, returns to his hometown club, where he began his journey and won the 2001-02 UEFA Cup.
Van Persie will be assisted by Rene Hake, who previously worked with Erik ten Hag at Manchester United before leaving in November.
Van Persie’s Reaction
Expressing his excitement, Van Persie described the appointment as a dream come true.
“Everyone knows how special my bond with Feyenoord is. I am really looking forward to working with the players, building a strong staff, and playing at De Kuip, supported by the fans, to achieve success together,” he said.
His appointment follows the sacking of Brian Priske earlier this month, with Pascal Bosschaart briefly taking interim charge. Feyenoord currently sits third in the Eredivisie, 13 points behind leaders Ajax.
They are also set for a Champions League last-16 clash, potentially facing Arsenal or Inter Milan—setting up a possible reunion between Van Persie and his former club at the Emirates.
