Almost nine months after Michael Schumacher’s serious skiing accident, the German has been transferred to his home near Geneva in order to continue recovering from the brain injuries sustained. The former driver’s spokesperson, Sabine Kehm, announced the news.
“Taking into account the serious injury suffered, he has made progress over the last few weeks and months. But there is still a long and difficult road ahead”, read a statement from the Schumacher family. We ask that the privacy of Michael’s family continue to be respected, and that speculation about his state of health be avoided”, the statement continued.
The Schumacher family have sought to maintain their privacy ever since the accident took place and information on the F1 legend’s recovery has been scarce, leading to all types of rumours. The general feeling is that while Schumacher came out of the coma after several months, his condition has not improved significantly.
His wife Corinne broke her silence in July and told a German magazine that he had made progress, albeit slowly.
In recent months, the German press also published information related to the alleged building of medical infrastructure on the family estate in Gland, at a cost of several million euros. In the statement, the family also thanked the staff at Lausanne hospital for their “thorough and competent work”.
The seven-time Formula 1 world champion, now 45, had a skiing accident on 29th December and was in a coma until 16th June, when he woke up and was transferred from the hospital in Grenoble to a clinic in Lausanne.
