Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has rejoined Chippa United, five months after departing the South African club by mutual consent.
Chippa United announced Nwabali’s return ahead of the 2026/27 Premier Soccer League season with an official statement on Sunday via their X handle.
“Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome Stanley Nwabali back to the Chilli Boys,” the club posted. “After taking time away, Stanley Nwabali returns to the Eastern Cape, and we are pleased to welcome him back to the club.
The 30-year-old shot-stopper had been absent from competitive football since February 2026, when he and Chippa United agreed to part ways.
At the time of his departure, the club wrote: “Chippa United Football Club confirms that Stanley Nwabali has formally submitted a request to depart the club. After careful consideration, the club has agreed to grant his release.” The Port Elizabeth-based side also paid tribute to Nwabali’s service and professionalism, saying, “We would like to sincerely thank Stanley Nwabali for the years of service, commitment, and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United Football Club. His contribution to the club will always be appreciated.”
Nwabali first joined Chippa United in 2022 from Katsina United and rose to national prominence at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where his performances in goal helped Nigeria reach the final.
However, after leaving Chippa United without signing for another club, Nwabali was omitted from the Super Eagles squad for several matches, affecting his role with the 2013 AFCON champions.
