Truck Fatally Crushes Dispatch Rider Again in Lagos

A dispatch rider has lost his life in another tragic road accident in Lagos State, less than a day after a similar incident claimed the life of another rider.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by Adebayo Taofiq, spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the latest fatal crash occurred at Otedola Bridge, inward Secretariat, along the Ogudu Toll Gate corridor. The accident involved a heavy-duty Volvo truck and a dispatch rider, resulting in the rider’s immediate death at the scene.

Taofiq explained that LASTMA officers on patrol quickly responded to the incident, securing and cordoning off the area to prevent further accidents, especially considering the heavy traffic along the route. The remains of the deceased were handed over to officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps, while police officers from Alausa Police Station were deployed to keep order during the rescue operation.

The damaged truck and motorcycle were promptly removed by a tow truck to restore traffic flow, though the incident initially caused significant congestion stretching towards the Berger axis. LASTMA officials worked diligently to ease the gridlock and ensure the resumption of normal vehicular movement as quickly as possible.

Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, extended condolences to the family of the deceased and emphasized the critical importance of adhering to traffic regulations. He reiterated LASTMA’s commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to enhance road safety and reduce fatalities across Lagos State.

This incident follows another fatal crash on Tuesday involving a dispatch rider and an empty NIPCO tanker with registration number TTN-776ZQ in the Motorways inward Estate area of Alapere, Lagos State. Preliminary investigations revealed that the tanker driver, allegedly speeding, collided with the moving dispatch rider, resulting in the rider’s instant death.
