Popular social media critic Martins Otse, better known as Verydarkman (VDM), has reacted to President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, raising concerns over the influence of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in the decision.
VDM Questions Wike’s Role in Tinubu’s Decision
In a video shared online, VDM strongly criticized the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months.
He asked, “Who is really the president of Nigeria?”—suggesting that Wike’s political influence might have played a significant role in the president’s decision.
Tinubu Declares Emergency Rule
President Tinubu announced the emergency rule on Tuesday, March 18, citing prolonged political instability in Rivers State as the reason. The president also appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas as the state’s administrator for an initial six-month period.
VDM, however, believes that Wike orchestrated Ibas’ appointment, further fueling speculation that the former Rivers governor is laying the groundwork for a potential 2032 presidential bid.
Criticism of Fubara’s Political Strategy
VDM also took a swipe at Governor Fubara, accusing him of rebelling against Wike without a strong political strategy. He argued that the governor’s lack of preparation led to his current predicament.
“Why must Nyesom Wike get whatever he wants? How can they suspend a sitting governor for six months and chase him out of the government house?” VDM asked.
The situation has sparked heated debates across Nigeria, with many questioning the fairness of the decision and Wike’s growing political power.
