Legendary two-time world heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medalist George Foreman has passed away at the age of 76. His family announced his peaceful passing on March 21, 2025, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of love and prayers while requesting privacy during this difficult time.
Born on January 10, 1949, in Marshall, Texas, Foreman rose from a troubled youth to become one of boxing’s most formidable figures. He won a gold medal in the heavyweight division at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, launching a professional career marked by power and resilience. In 1973, he claimed the world heavyweight title after a dominant victory over Joe Frazier. However, his most famous fight came in 1974 against Muhammad Ali in the historic “Rumble in the Jungle,” where he suffered a stunning defeat.
Following a loss to Jimmy Young in 1977, Foreman retired from boxing and turned to religion, becoming an ordained minister and dedicating himself to community service. A decade later, he shocked the world by making a boxing comeback. In 1994, at the age of 45, he regained the heavyweight title by knocking out Michael Moorer, making him the oldest heavyweight champion in history.
