Lebanese Illegal Streaming Operator Jailed After Premier League Crackdown

A Lebanese illegal streaming operator has been sentenced to 11 months in prison and ordered to pay over $90,000 (£70,000) following a complaint by the Premier League and Sky Sports.

The Premier League, which generates billions from global TV rights deals, joined forces with Sky Sports and the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment to take legal action. The Lebanese Cyber Crime Bureau was also involved in the case, which saw the defendant convicted on five charges.

Premier League’s Anti-Piracy Push

Kevin Plumb, Premier League General Counsel, emphasized the importance of cracking down on illegal streaming:

“The outcome of this case highlights the severity with which courts across the world continue to treat all forms of piracy and the stark consequences for those responsible for this criminality.”

“This is not only important to us and our broadcast partners, but it is essential for the future health of English football and the protection of our fans.”

TV Rights & Future Protection

  • The UK Premier League TV rights have been secured for the next four years.
  • Sky Sports and TNT Sports will continue broadcasting games until 2029.
  • The league remains committed to protecting its intellectual property worldwide.

With illegal streaming on the rise, this landmark case sets a strong precedent, reinforcing the Premier League’s determination to protect its revenue and broadcasting agreements.
