Selena Gomez is opening up about the harsh realities of fame, revealing how online hate and industry pressure have taken a toll on her.
In a recent interview on the Jay Shetty Podcast, the award-winning singer and actress spoke alongside her fiancé about the double standards women face in entertainment.
“Women have it much worse. Everything from our appearance to who we date is judged. When I go to events, I just want to take the picture and sit down,” she admitted.
She also addressed the backlash over her role in Emilia Perez, saying she was criticized for not being “white enough or Mexican enough.”
Gomez, who has battled lupus, spoke on the scrutiny around her fluctuating weight.
“People always have something to say. My weight is a big one. It makes me sad, and sometimes, yes, it makes me bitter,” she said.
Despite the negativity, the singer knows the power of social media and takes breaks when needed.
“I don’t hate social media, I just know when to step back,” she concluded.
