Ace actress Genevieve Nnaji has responded to a controversial tweet that advised Igbo men against marrying women from their own ethnic group.
he debate began on Sunday evening when a user on X user posted, Dear Igbo men, instead of marrying Igbo woman that’ll falsely accuse you of r4ping your daughter, better look outside for wife… Go to East Africa, especially this Rwanda and pick a damsel.
Nnaji, who is an Igbo woman from Mbaise, Imo state, swiftly fired back.
In other words, instead of checking yourself and taking accountability, go for the unsuspecting and carry on with your evil. Got it, she replied.
Her comment immediately drew mixed reactions. Another user challenged her, arguing that the original tweet was targeting false rape accusers and not all women.
Nnaji doubled down on her position.
The same way a woman can’t tell an abusive man apart from a good one is the same way you shouldn’t say avoid all Igbo women. Not all women, she wrote, emphasising the danger of stereotyping an entire group.
This isn’t the first time Nnaji, known for her private nature, has made headlines for her social media presence.
In January 2022, she unfollowed everyone on Instagram and subsequently deleted all her posts on the platform, sparking rumours about her mental health.
However, Nnaji later reflected on mental health, emphasising its spiritual aspect and encouraging people to get rebaptised.
