Federal Government Raises Allowances for Civil Servants

The Federal Government has approved an increase in peculiar allowances and other welfare benefits for civil servants.

Nigeria’s Head of the Civil Service, Didi Walson-Jack, announced the development during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, stating that the new measures are expected to boost the take-home pay and morale of the government workforce.

Walson-Jack explained that the increment applies to employees under both the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS) and the Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS). The changes are designed to ensure a broad-based impact across all cadres of the civil service.

She noted that the revised allowances will reflect across all grade levels, meaning improved earnings for both senior and junior officers.

In addition, the Federal Government has approved a review of several key allowances for civil servants, including Duty Tour Allowance (DTA), estacode, and book allowance. Walson-Jack stated that nearly all allowances covered under the Public Service Rules have now been updated.

A significant reform is the approval of a 100 percent Duty Tour Allowance for civil servants attending approved training programmes, regardless of whether travel is required.

More details to follow.
