Nathaniel Bassey Sets Record, Surpasses One Billion Views on YouTube

Nathaniel Bassey has surpassed one billion views on YouTube, reportedly becoming the first African gospel artist to achieve this milestone on the platform.

As of November 2, 2026, his official channel, Nathaniel Bassey Main, had amassed 1,014,544,577 cumulative views and 5.24 million subscribers.

This achievement comes more than 15 years after the channel’s launch on March 4, 2011. Over time, Bassey’s music releases, worship sessions, and online prayer meetings have steadily grown his audience.

The milestone also aligns with the October 2026 edition of the Hallelujah Challenge—a month-long online worship and prayer program Bassey initiated in June 2017. Originally conceived as a midnight praise session streamed live on Instagram, the Hallelujah Challenge has grown into a global Christian gathering, attracting participants from around the world through live broadcasts and recorded sessions.

Nathaniel Bassey is a pastor, trumpeter, and songwriter renowned for songs such as ‘Imela’, ‘Onise Iyanu’, ‘Olowogbogboro’, ‘You Are God’, ‘Yahweh Sabaoth’, and ‘Tobechukwu’. He is recognized as one of Nigeria’s foremost gospel ministers.

In October 2025, Bassey reflected on a difficult period when his wife suffered five miscarriages while he was leading the Hallelujah Challenge. Despite these personal challenges, he continued to host the live praise sessions, sometimes returning to lead worship even while his wife was in the hospital. He expressed his gratitude and sought forgiveness from his wife for sharing their story publicly, emphasizing how worship remained central even in the midst of adversity.
