Gunmen Abduct Former Minister Adelabu’s Sister and Children in Ibadan

Bayo Adelabu’s younger sister, along with her twin sons, was abducted in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Wednesday morning.

Adelabu, a former Minister of Power and 2027 APC governorship aspirant in Oyo, confirmed the incident through his media aide, Femi Awogboro.

According to eyewitness accounts, the kidnapping occurred in the Challenge area of Ibadan South West Local Government Area at around 7:30 a.m., as Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, 43, was driving her 12-year-old twin boys, Peter and Paul, to school. Armed assailants intercepted their vehicle and forcibly took all three.

Mrs. Adegoke John-Paul is the youngest of five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu. She had recently retired from the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian and moved to Ibadan with her children, preparing to join her husband, Mr. John Paul, in the United States.

Following the abduction, security agencies were immediately notified and have started preliminary investigations. The family expressed gratitude for the swift response of law enforcement and remains hopeful for the safe rescue of Mrs. John-Paul and her sons. They urged the public to avoid unverified speculation and appealed for prayers and support during this difficult time. Anyone with useful information is encouraged to contact the authorities.

This incident follows recent kidnappings in Oyo State, including the abduction of over 40 teachers and students in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15, 2026, and the kidnapping of APC chieftain Wale Oriade in Ibadan in December 2025. In Oriade’s case, eyewitnesses reported he was taken from his office at PJ Square Shopping Complex by armed men in a blue Micra vehicle.

The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, responded to inquiries by saying, I cannot independently verify this for now, but please hold on.
