Nigerian passport holders now have access to approximately 46 countries in 2026 without the need for a traditional visa before departure, according to the latest travel advisory for international travellers.
These destinations span Africa, the Caribbean, Asia, the Middle East, and Oceania, providing Nigerians with greater travel opportunities through visa-free entry, visa-on-arrival, and electronic visa (eVisa) systems.
West Africa is the most accessible region for Nigerian travellers, thanks to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Free Movement Protocol. This agreement allows Nigerians to enter several member countries without a visa and stay for up to 90 days.
Eligible countries include Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo. Cape Verde also offers visa-on-arrival facilities to ECOWAS citizens.
Beyond West Africa, Nigerian passport holders benefit from relatively straightforward entry to countries such as Cameroon, Mauritius, Rwanda, and Seychelles.
In the Caribbean, destinations like Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Haiti, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago do not require pre-arranged visas, making the region increasingly popular for tourism, business, and family visits.
Across Asia and the Middle East, the Maldives offers visa-free access, while Nepal, Cambodia, and Timor-Leste provide visas on arrival.
Bahrain grants entry through its eVisa platform. In Oceania, countries including Fiji, Kiribati, Micronesia, Samoa, and Vanuatu have opened their borders to Nigerians without requiring advance visas.
Other destinations such as Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Mozambique, Suriname, and Bolivia offer either visa-on-arrival or eVisa options, simplifying travel arrangements for Nigerians. Kenya, notably, uses an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) system for easier entry.
Despite these expanding travel possibilities, Nigerians still need traditional visas to visit major destinations such as the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, France, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, and most Schengen Area countries.
Travel experts highlight that the increasing availability of visa-on-arrival and eVisa programs is boosting global mobility for Nigerian passport holders and cutting down on bureaucratic barriers. This trend reflects ongoing efforts by countries to revise immigration policies and promote tourism, business, and international exchange. For Nigerians seeking opportunities abroad for leisure, education, or investment, these developments represent a significant expansion in global travel options.
