Lagos Shuts Down Over 20 Properties for Planning Violations

The Lagos State Government has sealed over 20 properties in the Ikeja Local Government Area for multiple physical planning violations.

The enforcement operation, conducted by the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA), forms part of the ongoing efforts to uphold compliance with the state’s planning regulations.

According to a statement issued on Saturday, the exercise was led by the Permanent Secretary, Office of Physical Planning, Olayinka Wasiu, together with the General Manager of LASPPPA, Kehinde Osinaike, and other senior officials.

The sealed properties include land parcels, incomplete buildings, and structures with unauthorized extensions, all of which were found to contravene the Lagos State Physical Planning Law.

Wasiu described the enforcement as a proactive step to prevent building collapse, promote orderly development, and ensure strict adherence to planning laws. He emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property through consistent regulatory enforcement.

Affected property owners had previously received contravention notices, detailing the necessary steps to regularize their developments before the sealing exercise was carried out.

Wasiu urged all property owners and developers to secure the appropriate permits and approvals before commencing any construction or structural modifications, noting that compliance is essential for sustainable urban growth.

He further stated that monitoring and enforcement activities would be intensified across Lagos State to curb illegal developments and maintain the integrity of the built environment. Law-abiding residents, he assured, can expect the government’s continued dedication to fostering a safe, orderly, and sustainable megacity.
