In a major advance against illicit drug trafficking, the Osun State Police Command has apprehended three male suspects and seized five bags of substances believed to be Indian hemp.
The drugs were discovered hidden inside a broken-down Toyota Sienna Space Bus along the busy Moro–Ife Road.
The incident occurred on August 30, 2026, around 1:30 p.m., when officers from the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Team E, were on routine patrol.
They came across a silver Toyota Sienna with registration number BGT 81 OLG, abandoned by the roadside after apparently developing a mechanical fault. The suspicious circumstances prompted the officers to search the area.
Their vigilance was soon rewarded when Awo Omotayo, 38, arrived at the scene in a red Nissan Cabstar truck (registration EPE 299 YJ), accompanied by 22-year-old Abayomi Suleiman, the tow truck driver, and Oluwatayo Samuel. The trio claimed they had come to tow the broken-down Sienna.
However, what seemed like a routine recovery quickly escalated when officers, suspecting foul play, decided to search the Sienna. Inside, they found several bags filled with dried weeds, which preliminary checks indicated to be Indian hemp.
The three men were arrested on the spot, and all vehicles and seized substances were taken to the Police Command for further investigation.
During questioning, Omotayo revealed that he had been contracted by an individual known as “Baba Ibo,” who operates around Garage Olode in Osun State.
Omotayo stated that Baba Ibo engaged him to transport the illegal cargo to Ogbomoso, Oyo State, and had even provided contact details for the intended recipient.
Reacting to the arrest, Osun State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, ordered an immediate, in-depth investigation.
He directed his officers to trace the source of the drugs and identify the intended recipient in Ogbomoso, vowing that no effort would be spared in dismantling the network behind the operation.
Security personnel are now pursuing “Baba Ibo” and other unidentified members of the criminal syndicate.
In a statement, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, reaffirmed the police’s commitment to eradicating illegal drugs and urged citizens to provide timely information that could aid the investigation and capture fleeing suspects.
“Together with the public, we can put an end to the scourge of drug trafficking and ensure that our communities remain safe and secure,” the statement concluded.
The suspects are in custody and will be prosecuted after investigations conclude, as the Command continues its determined fight against narcotics across Osun State.
