Rescue operations have intensified at the site of the collapsed Elite Five Star Lodge, a three-storey building in Amokpala, Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State. Emergency teams have so far recovered the body of a female victim, believed to be a student, from the rubble.
Officials also confirmed that the body of a young man, reportedly another student, has been located but not yet retrieved, as rescue workers continue their painstaking search.
The building, which gave way late Sunday night, is thought to have accommodated several students and other residents.
A multi-agency rescue team—including the Nigerian Red Cross Society, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Anambra State Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, and members of the Operation Udo Ga-Achi security outfit—remains at the scene.
Using excavators and other specialized equipment, emergency workers are carefully clearing debris in a coordinated effort to find any remaining survivors, while prioritizing the safety of all personnel involved.
