John Odafe Asiemo, popularly known as Daddy Showkey, has weighed in on the ongoing feud between the Okoye brothers, better known as Psquare, revealing that his past attempts at reconciling them were unsuccessful.
The Okoye siblings Peter, Paul, and Jude who co-founded the now-defunct music group, have recently reignited their public dispute.
The latest controversy began last week when Peter accused Jude of withholding proceeds from their music catalogue, including a specific $25,000 payment.
Peter also claimed he is not listed as a signatory on a bank account used for collecting royalties. Jude has since denied any wrongdoing, insisting that all earnings from their musical ventures were divided equally among the three brothers.
Speaking in an interview with Yanga FM, Daddy Showkey reflected on his longstanding efforts to mediate between the brothers. The veteran singer, who recently celebrated five decades on stage, recalled intervening on several occasions, believing at times that the rift had been mended.
I’ve been part of this issue for years. I watched them grow up in Jos, performing at my shows before they became Psquare. I would step in and try to make peace, thinking I had settled things. But now, they’re no longer children—they know where it hurts. I prefer not to get involved anymore,” he said.
Daddy Showkey described how, after hearing from both Peter and Paul individually, he thought the conflict had ended. However, he now believes that fame may have contributed to the ongoing discord, straining their relationship and impacting their families.
Fame can change people. Sometimes, you can’t talk to someone who has it—they think they’re untouchable. I don’t care if they dislike my words; at the end of the day, they’re siblings. This feud will affect their children, as everyone will tell their own side of the story. People love them as Psquare, and it pains me to see pride get in the way.
He also questioned the timing of the renewed public arguments, suggesting the brothers might be seeking attention. I feel like they’re also using this for publicity. Why bring it up again? he wondered.
The Okoye brothers first split in 2017 over disagreements related to Jude’s management. They reconciled in 2021, performing together for the first time in five years. However, by 2024, the group had parted ways again, with Paul alleging that Peter was involved in his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Peter, in turn, raised new concerns about their former management, resulting in renewed public disputes and legal battles.
Earlier this year, Peter announced that he had officially changed his birth date to November 30. Most recently, he accused Paul of attempting to damage his reputation, marking another chapter in the brothers’ ongoing feud.
