Lionel Messi netted his 930th career goal with a spectacular free-kick, but Inter Miami were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw against San Diego FC in Major League Soccer on Sunday night.
San Diego opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Anders Dreyer latched onto a through ball from Jeppe Tverskov and chipped Inter Miami goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair.
Messi quickly responded, earning and converting a free-kick from just outside the box 12 minutes later. The Argentine maestro curled a trademark left-footed strike around the wall, the ball glancing off the post before crossing the line past San Diego’s CJ dos Santos.
Messi’s goal—his 20th of the 2026 MLS season was also his 75th career free-kick and marked his 101st for Inter Miami, coming just four days after he reached the 100-goal milestone for the club in a Campeones Cup victory over Cruz Azul.

Inter Miami took the lead in the 74th minute through Luis Suárez, but Dreyer struck again for San Diego in the 82nd minute, leveling the match and securing a point for the visitors. The result extended Inter Miami’s run of consecutive MLS draws to four, leaving them with a record of 12 wins, four losses, and 10 draws for 46 points.
At 39, Messi continues to add to his legendary scoring record while remaining a pivotal force in Inter Miami’s campaign.
