Lolo 1: Coping with Postpartum Depression

Omotunde Adebowale, popularly known as Lolo 1, has candidly shared her experience with postpartum depression.

During a recent appearance on News Central’s Jasiri show, the actress and media personality recounted the emotional challenges she faced while caring for her first child.

Lolo 1 described how her newborn daughter would cry incessantly, a level of distress she had never witnessed in any other infant. She admitted that the constant crying left her feeling overwhelmed, to the point where she battled intense and troubling urges, including thoughts of throwing her baby out the window.

At times, Lolo 1 said, she would take a stool and sit outside the door, hoping the separation would soothe her child. “When I had my daughter, my firstborn, she was an extremely crying baby.

Even until now, I haven’t seen any baby cry as much as she did,” she recalled. “I used to have this uncontrollable urge to throw her out of the window. When I was home with her, I would sit outside the door on a stool, thinking maybe it was because she could see me.”

She also spoke about the invaluable support she received from her sister, who stayed with her for three months to help care for both mother and child. Lolo 1 noted that, at the time, she didn’t have a name for what she was experiencing.

When my sister stayed with me for three months, the day she left, I moved all my things to her husband’s house because I couldn’t stay with the child alone,” she said. “Back then, we didn’t have a name for it. Now, hearing these descriptions, I can only thank God for the support I had from my sister and my mother.”
