Wolves sign Adama Traore from Middlesbrough for club-record £20m fee on five-year contract

Wolves have completed the signing of Adama Traore with the former Middlesbrough winger moving to Molineux for a club-record £20million fee.

Newly-promoted Wolves announced the news on Twitter on Wednesday morning with the caption: ‘Bienvenido Adama’ to welcome Traore to Molineux.

The 22-year-old had completed his Wolves medical on Tuesday and has put pen to paper on a five-year contract with the Premier League outfit.

Wolves have paid Middlesbrough £10m of the transfer fee up front with the remainder due in installments depending on the number of appearances the player makes among other things.

Last season Traore netted five times and provided 10 assists as Middlesbrough progressed to the play-off semi-finals before losing to his former club Aston Villa.

Traore becomes the 10th arrival of a busy summer transfer window at Wolves ahead of their first campaign back in the top flight since suffering relegation in 2012-13.

Portugal internationals Rui Patricio and Joao Moutinho have also joined while Diogo Jota and Willy Boly have signed permanent deals after loan spells last season.

Speaking to his new club’s official website, Traore said: ‘I’m so happy to have signed. It’s a great day for me and my family. I am ready to give the team 100 per cent,’ he added. ‘And I want to thank the club and the gaffer for taking me to the club.’

Asked whether he shares Wolves’ ambitions as a club, Traore said: ‘Definitely. They know I like to push myself everyday and I have my dreams too to be the best player I can be.

Traore was absent for Middlesbrough’s 3-0 win over Sheffield United on Tuesday evening in the Championship while he completed his medical at Wolves.

Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis described Traore as his ‘best buddy’ following the win and said the winger’s departure was difficult to take.
