Troost-Ekong Eyes Leadership Role At Udinese

Udinese of Italy new signing William Troost Ekong has said he and his teammates are ready to take all 3 points against Sampdoria when both sides clash on Sunday.

The 24 year old was speaking at his official unveiling at Udinese on Thursday.

The Nigerian International made his debut for Udinese playing the full 90 minutes as they played a 2-2 draw away to Parma.

“I’m not too worried about the goals we let in against Parma: we’re still getting to now each other, we need a bit of time to settle in” Troost Ekong said about the game.

The former KAA Gent defender now said he and his teammates will be turning their focus on Sampdoria.

Against Sampdoria we’ll be back on home turf, it will be important to secure all three points. We need to play to win, not for the draw.

He also spoke about his experience and his leadership qualities.

My first focus is defending dead-ball situations: I will be happy to contribute in attack as well, but we already have plenty of quality up front.

I’ve played in several different competitions, I also had a busy summer playing with my national side at the World Cup. I want to improve on a personal level and I also want to grow together with my team-mates.

As a centre-back, being a leader comes naturally to me. I’m the sort of player that talks a lot and so for that reason I’m counting on picking up Italian quickly.
