AC Milan Appoints Ruben Amorim as New Head Coach

Ruben Amorim has been appointed as the new head coach of AC Milan, tasked with restoring the seven-time European champions to the Champions League.

Amorim, who officially took charge on Monday, will reportedly earn a net annual salary of 3.5 million euros ($4.06 million) on a two-year contract, according to Italian media.

Some ambitions stay with you throughout your career, and coaching AC Milan has always been one of mine,” Amorim stated. I know exactly what this club means: history, prestige, and an extraordinary fanbase around the world.

Amorim, 41, returns to management just six months after being dismissed by Manchester United, a departure that cost the Premier League club £16.7 million ($22.4 million) with a year and a half remaining on his contract. Despite his promising reputation from his time at Sporting Lisbon, Amorim struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford, and it was his successor, Michael Carrick, who eventually secured United’s return to the Champions League.

AC Milan narrowly missed out on a top-four finish in Serie A last season, suffering a shock 2-1 home defeat to relegation-threatened Cagliari on the final day and finishing fifth, behind both Roma and surprise package Como, who claimed the last Champions League places. The disappointing end to the campaign, coupled with vocal fan protests against American owners RedBird, resulted in the dismissal of coach Massimiliano Allegri, CEO Giorgio Furlani, and sporting directors Igli Tare and Geoffrey Moncada.

Allegri is widely expected to take over at Napoli following Antonio Conte’s departure, according to widespread reports.
