AFCON 2025 Qualifiers: Osimhen returns as Ekong, Lookman & 20 others get Super Eagles call-up

Super Eagles head coach Augustine Eguavoen has called upon 23 players ahead of this month’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

Eguavoen has invited regular faces like captain William Troost-Ekong, in-form Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman, Nantes winger Moses Simon, and reigning African Player of the Year Victor Osimhen, who makes a return to the team after a hamstring injury kept him out of the October matches.

Also on the list are goalkeepers Stanley Nwabali and Maduka Okoye, defenders Calvin Bassey and Bright Osayi-Samuel, midfielders Frank Onyeka, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, and Alhassan Yusuf, as well as forwards Kelechi Iheanacho, Victor Boniface, and Samuel Chukwueze.

Meanwhile, Eguavoen also extended callups to Nasarawa United defender Victor Collins, who gets the nod for the first time; Auxerre defender Gabriel Osho, who will be looking to make his debut having previously withdrawn from his first international call-up due to injury; and returning Real Sociedad forward Sadiq Umar.

The Super Eagles will jet out to Abidjan on November 11, three days before their match against the Cheetahs of Benin, who they will face at the Stade Felix-Houphouet-Boigny on Thursday, November 14.

The three-time African champions will then take on the Amavubi of Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Monday, November 18, for their final game in the qualifying rounds.

The AFCON 2023 finalist currently tops Group D with 10 points, after a favorable ruling from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and a point across the two matches guarantees the Super Eagles a place at next year’s final.
