Barcelona present a renewal offer to Messi

Barcelona have offered Lionel Messi a new contract, with his current deal at the Camp Nou set to expire on June 30.

The Catalan club have therefore decided to not wait for the results of the audit that Joan Laporta commissioned when he took office and have presented an offer to Messi.

This is according to TV3, who also note that Messi will not respond until he is aware of Barcelona‘s plans for the 2021/22 season.

Messi is currently on international duty with Argentina as the Albiceleste continue their preparations ahead of this summer’s Copa America, which could be a chance for the 33-year-old to lift his first major honour with his country.

It should not be forgotten that Messi has always said that he wants an attractive sporting project and for Barcelona to compete for major trophies in the short term, so if he believes that this is the case, the economic side will be secondary.

Laporta had planned to wait until the results of the audit have been published in order to understand just how bad Barcelona‘s finances are, with the club’s debt level at 1.173 billion euros in their last financial report, but these will not be available for another two or three weeks. Therefore, Barcelona have brought forward their renewal offer to Messi.

On Friday, Laporta will appear at a press conference and will likely provide some details about Messi‘s future.
