Bukky Wright has voiced concerns about a decline in work ethic and discipline among some members of the new generation of Nollywood actors, drawing a sharp contrast with the dedication she experienced in the early days of her career.
In an interview on Jay On Air TV, the veteran actress expressed her dismay at the relaxed approach to punctuality she now witnesses on movie sets.
Sometimes I go to locations and see actors who are supposed to be on set by 9am strolling in at 2 or 3pm,” she remarked.
The 59-year-old actress compared this trend with the atmosphere of her early career, describing the old Nollywood as a period marked by greater commitment and professionalism. “Old Nollywood had the spice. The actors were wonderful, and people were truly dedicated to their work. Back then, discipline was paramount,” she recalled.
Reflecting on her personal journey, Wright remembered entering a male-dominated industry and refusing to be deterred. When I started, it was mostly men in the industry. But I told myself, ‘No, I’m going to do it.’ And I did, she said.
After spending several years away from Nollywood, Wright has made a notable return, continuing to appear in film and television projects. She recently produced ‘The Return of Omotola Johnson,’ further cementing her active role in the industry.
In May, Wright opened up about her motivations for joining Nollywood, revealing that she did not pursue acting for fame, but so that her children would be able to find her when they grew up.
