Candle Fire Burns 2 Kids To Death

Two kids of the same parents were burnt to death at the weekend in Ejigbo, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, after a burning candle in the room ingited a foam they were sleeping on and the whole room caught fire. The incident happened on Saturday night at about 9 p.m. at 1, Anulowapo Street, Orilowo Bus Stop, Ejigbo. The victims identified as Abiba, 5, and Lukeman, 3, were burnt to death while their mother who lit the candle was outside taking fresh air following power outage in the area.

Valuable items in the room were also burnt before the fire was prevented from spreading to other rooms.
P.M.NEWS learnt that the father of the victim identified as Tunde is the son of the late landlord of the house.
Both children that died were his only offsprings and were pupils of Mayor Comprehensive School, Ejigbo.
According to eyewitness accounts, neighbours saw smoke billowing from the room and alerted the mother of the kids but before she could open the door to rescue the victims, they had been burnt beyond recognition. The neighbours expressed shock over what happened and said the children were with their mother outside before they fell asleep and were taken to the room to sleep. When P.M.NEWS visited Ejigbo Police Station where the matter was reported, the DPO was not around to make a comment. Sources at the station confirmed the incident and said the police are not investigating the incident because already the corpses have been buried by the family.
