Chelsea dropped two points on Thursday evening at home to Everton, with Mason Mount’s goal quickly cancelled out by Jarrad Branthwaite.
The result, combined with wins for Manchester City and Liverpool, leaves the Blues four and three points off the pair respectively.
Thomas Tuchel’s men weren’t at their best, although much of the result had to do with the fine form of Jordan Pickford, who made nine saves in the encounter.
Chelsea finally made the breakthrough thanks to Mason Mount on 70 minutes, who connected with Reece James’ pass.
But just as it looked like that goal would provide all three points for the hosts, young Branthwaite was on hand to notch in a leveller for the Toffees.
Chelsea struggled to find their feet after the equaliser and were forced to settle for just a point which comes as a significant setback in their title hopes.
