The Edo State Police Command has launched an immediate and comprehensive investigation into allegations of extortion involving officers from the Okpella Police Division.
This action follows a viral video on social media in which several young men allege that police officers arrested them, falsely accused them of cultism, and demanded ₦1 million for their release.
Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Patrick Daaor, has ordered a thorough probe into the incident and directed all officers implicated in the allegations to report to the Command Headquarters.
The officers have been identified and summoned accordingly.
Additionally, the Command—through the Police Public Relations Officer—has invited the alleged victims to present their accounts to the investigation team.
CP Daaor emphasized that the Command treats all allegations of police misconduct, extortion, and abuse of power with the utmost seriousness.
He assured that any officer found guilty after the investigation will face appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the law.
The Edo State Police Command also reassures the public that legitimate complaints against police personnel will be addressed transparently and not ignored.
Citizens who encounter unprofessional conduct, harassment, misconduct, or extortion by police officers are encouraged to report such cases to the Complaint Response Unit for prompt action.
