Galatasaray and Fenerbahce Play Out Fiery but Goalless Derby

The highly anticipated Turkish Super Lig clash between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce ended in a goalless draw, with both teams failing to find the breakthrough in a tense and hard-fought encounter.

With Turkish football already in turmoil over refereeing controversies and heated exchanges between both clubs, the fixture carried a sense of unpredictability. The heavy police presence reflected the charged atmosphere, but in the end, the game failed to live up to expectations in terms of goals—delivering only yellow cards instead.

Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic showed seven yellow cards—five for Galatasaray and two for Fenerbahce—though that number was relatively low compared to past encounters. The first leg of the season saw nine yellow cards, while the last meeting at Rams Park featured 11, including a red card.

On the pitch, Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce looked the more dangerous side, generating an expected goals (xG) of 1.53 compared to Galatasaray’s 1.12. The Yellow Canaries even had a goal ruled out, adding to their frustration, despite having less of the ball.

Meanwhile, Victor Osimhen struggled to make an impact, as Galatasaray’s attack lacked urgency and creativity. The hosts failed to break down Fenerbahce’s defense, leaving their title rivals still in contention.

While the draw keeps the title race alive, both teams will feel they missed a chance to gain the upper hand in one of the most heated rivalries in Turkish football.
