England were forced to settle for a frustrating 0-0 draw against a resolute Ghana side in their World Cup Round 2 clash on Tuesday night, despite dominating possession and manufacturing the game’s best chances.
Thomas Tuchel’s men controlled the tempo from the outset, enjoying long spells of possession and pinning Ghana deep in their own half.
However, England’s inability to convert their dominance into goals—combined with a superb display from Ghanaian goalkeeper Benjamin Asare—meant the breakthrough never came. The Three Lions started brightly, with Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice dictating play in midfield, and Harry Kane, Anthony Gordon, and Noni Madueke probing Ghana’s defensive lines.
While England bossed territory and possession, Ghana remained compact and dangerous on the counterattack. Jordan Ayew, Inaki Williams, and Antoine Semenyo worked tirelessly to relieve pressure, while Thomas Partey anchored the midfield with calm authority.
England’s clearest chances arrived after the break. Substitute Bukayo Saka nearly opened the scoring with a fierce effort that drew a spectacular stop from Asare. Soon after, Nico O’Reilly saw his header cannon off the crossbar, with Kane firing the rebound over.
The pressure mounted as England pressed for a late winner. Kane and Gordon were both denied by Asare, while Marc Guehi’s late header was cleared off the line as Ghana’s defence refused to yield under intense pressure. At one stage, England boasted over 80 percent possession and forced a series of corners, but Ghana’s disciplined rearguard held firm to secure a hard-earned point.
