Nigerian football legend Nwankwo Kanu and his Enyimba side have been rewarded for their efforts in the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup, where they finished third in Group D.
Despite not progressing beyond the group stage, Enyimba International Football Club secured a financial windfall of over ₦600 million (approximately $400,000) for their performance. The amount includes the prize money for placing third, marking a significant return from their continental campaign.
This reward adds to the $1 million the club received from CAF’s African Football League over the last 18 months, bringing a much-needed boost to the two-time African champions. Under Kanu’s leadership, the team has been working to restore its past glory and elevate its performance on both local and international stages.
Kanu, known for his stellar playing career that includes winning the UEFA Champions League and an Olympic gold medal, has set bold targets for the team. He has urged Enyimba to either win the Nigeria Premier Football League or finish in the top three to qualify for future continental competitions.
The club’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. Their participation and performance in the CAF Confederation Cup have contributed to Nigeria maintaining four slots in the 2025/26 CAF Inter-Club competitions, a positive sign for Nigerian football on the continental stage.
