Renowned Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, has expressed his frustration over what he describes as a high level of incompetence among Nigerian job seekers.
Taking to Instagram on March 12, 2025, Afolayan criticized many unemployed individuals who, despite lamenting the lack of jobs, fail to deliver when given opportunities.
“I am so saddened by the high level of incompetence in our beloved country. A lot of people cry about not having a job, but when they get one, how efficient are they at it? I’m so pissed,” he wrote.
Mixed Reactions Online
His statement sparked a debate on social media, with some agreeing while others argued that proper training and fair wages could improve employee performance.
Here are some reactions:
- “Why generalize? Mention their name, state of origin, gender, height, complexion, genotype, and field of operation.” 😆
- “Instead of complaints, how about investing in training and skill development? Growth takes time.”
- “Come and ask me! They apply for jobs, get called for interviews, and won’t show up. The ones who resume don’t want to work!”
- “There are many competent and hardworking individuals, but they remain undiscovered like hidden gems.”
- “Employers want to hire cheaply, while employees just want any job to survive. That’s why both sides end up frustrated.”
- “As an HR expert, I face this daily. Sometimes, you just have to pick the ‘best bad ones’ in recruitment.”
- “The real issue is failed EDUCATION. Before you can excel at work, you must first invest in YOURSELF.”
Afolayan’s remarks have reignited discussions about workplace efficiency, training, and the role of both employers and employees in tackling mediocrity in Nigeria’s labor market.
