Liverpool’s reserves secured the Reds’ place in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Tuesday night as they beat Shrewsbury 1-0 in their replay at Anfield.
With the Premier League side on their winter break, coach Jurgen Klopp had given his first-team players an extended holiday period, with he himself even sitting out the game and Neil Critchley taking charge.
The youngsters – with an average age of 19 years and 102 days, the youngest line-up in the club’s history – put in an impressive performance, too, though it did take a 75th-minute own goal to seal the win as Ro-Shaun Williams headed Neco Williams‘ long ball into his own net.
Liverpool will now meet Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on March 5 in the fifth round.
