Lucas Paquetá Eyes Flamengo Return Amid Spot-Fixing Trial Uncertainty

West Ham star Lucas Paquetá is reportedly eager to return to Brazil this summer, with Flamengo keen to bring him in on loan. However, any move hinges on the outcome of his ongoing spot-fixing trial, which could determine the course of his career.

According to Fabricio Lopes via Bolavip Brasil, Paquetá is prepared to accept a significant pay cut to seal a move to his former club. His desire to leave West Ham stems from frustration with the club’s poor form and the uncertainty surrounding his stalled career.

The Brazilian midfielder is accused of deliberately picking up yellow cards to help friends and family profit from betting allegations he strongly denies. A guilty verdict could result in a lifetime ban from football. His trial, however, has been delayed until the summer, leaving both the player and clubs interested in him in limbo.

This is not the first time Paquetá’s career has been affected by the charges. A big-money move to Manchester City collapsed due to the ongoing investigation.

Despite West Ham’s struggles currently sitting 17th in the Premier League they are safe from relegation, 15 points clear of Ipswich Town in 18th. Still, the club may be open to negotiating a deal for Paquetá, if cleared.
