Nottingham Forest ‘agree £20m deal for Watford’s Emmanuel Dennis

Nottingham Forest are reportedly on the verge of their 13th signing of the summer as they close in on a deal for Watford’s Emmanuel Dennis.

Steve Cooper has sought to revamp the Forest squad this summer after a number of players who were influential in their promotion via the play-offs last season either left or saw their loan deals expire.

With Watford having gone the other way to Forest this campaign, it had been expected that Dennis, who impressed for the Hornets last term, would depart the club this summer.

Nottingham Forest have agreed a £20m deal for Emmanuel Dennis according to reports

Watford’s relatively high price for the player appeared to put some suitors off earlier in the summer but Forest have taken advantage and seen their bid of around £20m accepted, according to The Athletic.

The signing would take Forest’s overall summer spending beyond £100m.

Dennis, a Nigeria international, scored 10 goals and recorded six assists for Watford last season despite playing in a team that found points hard to come by.

Gino Pozzo, Watford’s owner, had moved to ensure the club received value for a player who has shown that he can cut in the Premier League.

Dennis’ former side, Club Bruges, stand to make around £1m on the player having inserted a five per cent sell-on fee into the initial £3m deal that saw him move to Watford last summer.

The 24-year-old joins Neco Williams, Jesse Lingard, Taiwo Awoniyi, Dean Henderson and Harry Toffolo, as well as a host of others, as having joined the Midlands club this summer.

Forest’s return to the Premier League got off to a difficult start last weekend when they were beaten 2-0 by Newcastle at St James’ Park.

Cooper’s side will play their first home Premier League fixture since 1999 on Saturday when they host West Ham at the City Ground.

It has since been reported by the Evening Standard that Kiernan Davis, who spent last season on loan at Forest from parent club Aston Villa, is a target for Watford as they look to sign a striker before the window closes on September 1.
