Omotunde Ogundimu is the third Nollywood star in recent days to publicly disclose a cancer diagnosis and appeal for financial assistance

Nollywood actress Omotunde Ogundimu has opened up about her battle with cervical cancer and is seeking financial support from Nigerians to fund her treatment.

Ogundimu, speaking in an interview with fellow actress Biola Bayo, revealed she was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2024 after undergoing a series of medical tests. She described the diagnosis as devastating, sharing the immense physical and emotional strain she has endured since receiving the news.

“When I got the test results, they told me I had cervical cancer. I was shocked—I kept wondering, ‘Where did I get cancer from?’ I am an easy-going person,” she recounted.

Although Ogundimu noted that some well-wishers, including her children, have tried to support her, she said the ongoing cost of treatment has become overwhelming. “I no longer have the strength. I’ve reached out to many people, and they’ve helped me. My children have spent all their income to care for me. They barely have time for themselves. I thank God for them.”

Acknowledging her situation, Ogundimu explained why she decided to seek public assistance. “I’ve thought about it for a long time, but now I have to plead with the public. I know some people might criticize me, but others will help. All I want is to get better. The pain is too much.”

The veteran actress also lamented the low pay she receives for acting roles, despite her decades of experience. “I’m a mother of three and a widow—my husband died in 2012. I am good at what I do, but I am no longer being called for jobs. Sometimes, I get paid only N20,000 or N30,000 for a role. With 35 years in this industry, it’s disheartening. And you can’t even complain.”

Ogundimu appealed to anyone she may have offended in the industry to forgive her, urging them to remember her contributions to Nollywood and her current struggles.

Her plea comes as the Nigerian movie industry witnesses an increasing number of fundraising campaigns for actors facing health challenges. Recently, actress Destiny Etiko initiated a fundraising drive for colleague Ikechukwu Nweke, who revealed on July 10 that he is battling colon cancer.

She recently revealed donations have reached N13 million, as the actor continues his battle with cancer.

Similarly, actress Cynthia Anijekwu also received over N13 million in donations following her public plea on July 6 for financial support for her cancer treatment.
