Napoli are incensed that Victor Osimhen has tested positive for COVID-19.
Having joined the Partenopei for an initial 60 million euros last summer, the Nigerian striker has impressed when he has been injury free, tearing up Serie A defences in the early part of the 2020/21 campaign.
Now, though, the striker has caused problems for his team after celebrating his 22nd birthday in Nigeria on December 29.
Pictures emerged of Osimhen partying with friends, all without a face covering, which has outraged people at the club.
“I’m sorry for what happened,” Osimhen said. “I was wrong to go to Nigeria at this time, and I was wrong to take part in that surprise party without understanding the seriousness of what I was doing.
“I apologise to the club, the coach, the team and the fans.”
Both club president Aurelio De Laurentiis and coach Gennaro Gattuso are upset with the player’s actions.
