A plane flew over the Etihad as Manchester City faced Burnley on Monday night with the message “White Lives Matter Burnley”.
The incident took place shortly after the kick off of the Premier League encounter.
“Burnley strongly condemn the actions of those responsible for the aircraft and offensive banner that flew over the Etihad on Monday evening,” a statement emitted at half time by Burnley said.
“We wish to make it clear that those responsible are not welcome at Turf Moor.
“This in no way represents what Burnley stand for and we will work fully with the authorities to identify those responsible and issue lifetime bans.”
Before each game in the competition, players are taking a knee to show their support following the death of George Floyd in the United States.
Furthermore, all players are donning “Black Lives Matter” on the back of their shirts.
