The Anambra State Police Command has issued a warning to Nigerians against raising funds for the release of Anulika Onyeanusia, a 36-year-old woman arrested for the alleged sexual abuse of her seven-year-old daughter.
Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga announced that authorities had observed online comments suggesting that some individuals were collecting money to secure Onyeanusia’s release.
We have seen comments that some people are mobilizing funds to secure the release of the Nigerian mother accused of sexually abusing her daughter and creating adult content using the child. We assure Nigerians that, under our watch, such efforts will not succeed,” Ikenga stated.
Ikenga further revealed that the alleged fundraising activities are now part of the ongoing police investigation, as they may offer leads to others who could be involved in the case. “These comments are now included in our investigation.
At the very least, they demonstrate that there may be other individuals supporting the woman’s actions. From her statements, it appears to be a syndicate crime, and we are prepared to collaborate with the international community if necessary,” he added.
Onyeanusia’s arrest in Onitsha followed reports and the circulation of a disturbing livestream in which her daughter was allegedly assaulted with sex toys for the creation of explicit content.
The incident sparked widespread public outrage and demands for swift action to protect the child.
During the preliminary investigation, Onyeanusia admitted to profiting from the material, stating that the highest amount she had received was $300.
She has since pleaded for forgiveness from Nigerians, while her husband has denied any knowledge of her actions.
