Police Arrest Katsina Woman for Allegedly Slitting Husband’s Throat

Katsina State Police Command has apprehended a 23-year-old housewife, Sadiya Lawal, for allegedly attempting to murder her husband by slitting his throat while he slept in Katsina metropolis.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued to journalists on Monday. According to Sadiq, the incident was reported by the victim, Jamilu Ibrahim, at the Central Market Police Division around 9 a.m. on Monday. Ibrahim alleged that his wife attacked him with a knife while he was asleep earlier that morning, resulting in a serious neck wound. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and is currently receiving treatment.

Police officers responded by visiting the scene, arresting the suspect, and recovering the knife believed to have been used in the attack. Sadiya Lawal remains in custody and will be charged after investigations are concluded.

In a separate development, the command’s operatives foiled a bandit attack in Dandume Local Government Area, recovering two motorcycles and a machete after a gunfight with the fleeing suspects. Sadiq explained that on June 28, 2026, a distress call reported a large group of armed bandits on motorcycles along the Kadisau-Sheme Road in Dandume LGA. The Divisional Police Officer quickly mobilized officers from the Violent Crimes Response Unit and the Katsina State Community Watch Corps. The security team engaged the bandits in a gun duel, forcing them to retreat and abandon their motorcycles and a machete, which were recovered as evidence. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects.

Reacting to these incidents, the state Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Umar Fage, commended the officers for their swift response in repelling the bandits and reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state. He also cautioned residents against domestic violence, urging families to resolve disputes peacefully and lawfully.

The Commissioner encouraged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to assist the police in combating crime. In May, the command had similarly foiled kidnapping and cattle-rustling attempts in Kankara and Malumfashi Local Government Areas, rescuing 11 abducted passengers and recovering 25 stolen cows.
