Cristiano Ronaldo has responded after Rasmus Hojlund mimicked his iconic “Siu” celebration during Denmark’s 1-0 victory over Portugal in their UEFA Nations League quarter-final clash.
Hojlund, who came off the bench to score the winning goal, insisted he meant no disrespect, calling Ronaldo his idol. The Portuguese superstar, flattered by the gesture, acknowledged the admiration but made it clear he hopes to have his own moment in the return leg.
“It’s no problem for me. I know it wasn’t out of disrespect. It is not only him who does my celebration around the world. I’m smart enough to understand that. For me, it is an honour,” Ronaldo said.
“I hope to do it in front of him tomorrow [Sunday]. It will be good. I’m glad he likes my celebration.”
With Denmark taking a one-goal lead to Lisbon, Ronaldo and his Portuguese teammates will be looking to overturn the deficit in the second leg and advance to the semi-finals.
