Nigerian singer Terry Apala has fired back at activist VeryDarkMan (VDM), issuing a 48-hour ultimatum to take down a post accusing him of collecting bribes from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The Allegation
VeryDarkMan recently alleged that Terry Apala, along with DJ Tunez and DJ Osas, were invited by the EFCC and allegedly collected money from the agency. The activist did not provide evidence, but his post quickly stirred backlash and attention online.
Legal Response
In a statement issued by Terry Apala’s legal team, the singer denied all accusations, calling them false, defamatory, and damaging to his name and the image of the EFCC. The letter accused VDM of attempting to use Terry for clout and warned that legal action would follow if the defamatory post is not retracted within 48 hours.
“I want to state clearly that this bribery allegation is a total lie and has no basis in reality… I have never bribed anyone, nor have I been involved in any kind of financial corruption,” Apala said in the statement.
He Wasn’t Even in Nigeria
Apala also provided an alibi, stating he had been out of the country for months, focusing on his personal life and observing Ramadan. He expressed deep concern about the damage such unfounded claims could cause to both his career and the credibility of the EFCC.
“It troubles me that this unfounded accusation is being spread around without proof. It needs to be publicly refuted quickly to protect the integrity of the EFCC and to clear my name from this unfair connection,” he added.
The clock is ticking for VeryDarkMan to respond will he delete the post or double down?
