The Circumstances Surrounding the Death of Nigerian Law School Student Faith Alayande on the Lagos Campus

The Nigerian Law School has confirmed the passing of 23-year-old Faith Alayande, a student who tragically fell from the rooftop of a hostel at its Lagos Campus while participating in an externship programme.

In an official statement signed by Aderonke O. Osho, Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration, the institution explained that Alayande, originally enrolled at the Enugu Campus, was temporarily staying at the Lagos Campus hostel during her externship.

The incident reportedly occurred around 4:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026. According to preliminary information, Alayande fell from the rooftop and, regrettably, did not survive.

The Law School stated that it is collaborating with the relevant authorities and Alayande’s family to determine the circumstances leading to her death.

Earlier, the Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident after the hostel matron reported that Alayande had been found unresponsive on the premises. Police officers responded to the scene, evacuated her remains to a morgue, and have since launched an investigation.

Reports suggest that, prior to her discovery, a hostel mate and a relative found a note believed to have been written by Alayande and began searching for her. She was subsequently found unresponsive following the fall.

The Law School expressed its deep sorrow over the incident and extended heartfelt condolences to Alayande’s family, colleagues, and all affected. The institution also appealed to the public and media to respect the family’s privacy during the ongoing investigation.
