The Cristiano effect: Pogba wants to stay at Manchester United

Upon Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United, everything has changed at the club, the fans are more energised and the players are too, and this is very much true for Paul Pogba, who is now understood to want to stay at Old Trafford.

Pogba has enjoyed a blistering attacking start to the season, contributing seven assists, although rumours of a desired Manchester United departure have flared throughout the summer.

According to The Athletic, Pogba has seen Ronaldo arrive at the club and now he wishes to stay beyond the end of his current contract in June of 2022.

As of January, Pogba will be free to negotiate with other clubs, although it seems as though extension talks will resume in the near future.

Ronaldo’s return has given Manchester United a real belief of success, in addition to the arrivals of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane and this is said to have encouraged Pogba to stay and be part of it.

“He [Pogba] has been very good,” Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told reporters.

Paul has come in, bright with his own personality, he’s worked hard over the summer. He’s lean and he’s enjoying himself. We’ve seen that Paul wants to contribute.

“Of course you [the press] don’t see him in the dressing room or in training, but he’s really determined and he shows his winning mentality and I’m very impressed with him.”
