Timi Frank Urges Tinubu to Recognise MKO Abiola as Nigeria’s Posthumous President

Political activist and former APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Timi Frank, has called on President Bola Tinubu to officially declare Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola as Nigeria’s posthumous presidentand pay his family all entitlements for the eight years he would have served.

Why the Call for Recognition?

Frank’s demand follows a recent revelation by former military ruler General Ibrahim Babangida (IBB), who admitted in his new book, A Journey in Service, that Abiola won the June 12, 1993, presidential election. Babangida, who annulled the election, claimed that General Sani Abacha and other forces pressured him into the decision.

Frank Demands Apology and Action

Frank, however, insists that Babangida’s admission is not enough and demands:

  • A public apology from IBB to Abiola’s family and Nigerians.
  • President Tinubu to send a bill to the National Assembly to validate the election results and declare Abiola as a former president.
  • IBB to donate all proceeds from his book launch to Abiola’s family as a sign of penitence.

“Tinubu Must Act Now”

Frank reminded Tinubu of his active role in the June 12 struggle, urging him to take swift action to correct the historical injustice.

Until these steps are taken, Frank insists that IBB will remain “eternally blamable” for the annulment that altered Nigeria’s democratic journey.
