VIDEO: British high commissioner to Nigeria joins #BeLikeNgoziChallenge

Catriona Laing, British high commissioner to Nigeria, has joined a Twitter challenge initiated to celebrate Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on becoming the new director-general of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

On Monday, Okonjo-Iweala set a record as the first female and African to be appointed the DG of the WTO.

Shortly after her appointment, Nigerians had taken to Twitter to celebrate the ex-minister of finance by dressing up in NOI’s signature head tie, Ankara, and glasses.

Joining the frenzy, Laing took to the microblogging platform to share a video of herself wearing headgear and Nigerian fabric.

Hey my sister,  Ngozi, we’re so proud of you, the new director-general of the World Trade Organisation. All young girls out there, see what you can aspire to. You can be brilliant in your career. But also, just be yourself,” she said.

Prior to Okonjo-Iweala’s emergence as WTO DG, all member countries of the trade organisation had voted her as their preferred candidate in 2020, except the Donald Trump-led US government, which initially favoured South Korea’s Yoo Myung-hee.

The ex-minister for finance would later emerge from a shortlist of five selected from a pool of eight candidates.
