Josep Maria Bartomeu’s position as Barcelona president is under serious threat after the vote of no confidence against him reached the required number of signatures.
The organisers of the motion reached 18,000 signatures on Thursday morning and the document will now be taken to the club.
Once the number of signatures has been verified, Barcelona will begin the process leading to a referendum to decide whether Bartomeu stays or goes.
The date of that vote is likely to be announced between the next 10 and 20 days.
And if two-thirds are in favour of it, then the Blaugrana will be forced to remove Bartomeu from his role, and elections will be run to elect the club’s new president.
On Wednesday the motion only had 14,000 signatures, but it has accelerated in the last few days.
There is expected to be a press conference on Friday at 12pm CEST to hear from the presidential candidates and understand the next steps in this extraordinary saga.
