You can be sexy without revealing your body – Shaffy Bello

Veteran Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello has urged young women not to equate sexiness with revealing their bodies, instead emphasizing the importance of self-worth, personal growth, and making empowered choices beyond mere survival.

Bello shared her perspectives during a recent interview on The Morayo Show, hosted by Morayo Afolabi-Brown. The interview, published on the show’s official YouTube channel on May 21, has since gone viral, with clips widely shared across social media platforms like X.

Addressing the unique pressures faced by young women, Bello advised that online attention and validation do not require exposing one’s body. “There are so many young girls who need to hear that the seeds they sow matter,” she said. “You don’t have to show your boobs to be sexy. You don’t have to shake your bum to go viral or get attention.”

Bello also touched on the reality of transactional relationships, acknowledging that some women find themselves in such situations out of necessity. If what you’re doing now is being a runs girl to make money, you don’t have to stay there. I understand it.

I’m not judging you, she said. She recognized that financial pressures—like supporting family or paying school fees—can drive these choices. Some girls are doing it because they need to feed their mum or send their younger siblings to school. I understand. But my darlings, don’t stay there. You are more than that, Bello encouraged.

Reflecting on her own career, Bello highlighted her dedication to acting, which she sees as her true calling. I’m an actor. Every actor doesn’t have to be a producer. I stay in my lane and do what God asked me to do, she shared. While acknowledging that many in the industry venture into production for financial reasons, Bello emphasized her commitment to purpose over profit. If I start producing films just for the money, then I’ve missed the point. Money isn’t everything, she concluded.
