Zimbabwe’s national team players have been promised a massive $150,000 (₦300m) each if they can defeat Nigeria in their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Uyo.
The Zimbabwean government initially pledged the same amount for a victory over Benin, but the 2-2 draw denied them the payout. Now, they have a second chance at the lucrative reward if they pull off a shock win against the three-time African champions.
While the incentive is expected to boost Zimbabwe’s morale, football analysts argue that it underestimates Nigeria’s strength despite the Super Eagles’ struggles in the qualifiers. Nigeria sits fifth in Group C after four winless games, trailing Rwanda, South Africa, Benin, Lesotho, and Zimbabwe.
With their World Cup hopes on the line, the Super Eagles must rise to the challenge in Uyo to avoid another major setback.
